Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 6 speed with manual gearbox

>> Tuesday, May 24, 2011

After years of speculation, spy photos, and rumors, General Motors revealed its range-topping Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 "supercar." As expected, the ZR1 is the most powerful and most expensive Corvette model ever. An all-new LS9 motor produces 620 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 595 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Delivering 100 horsepower per liter, the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 is mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox with a new high-capacity clutch designed for the increased power. The twin-disc 260mm design provides plenty of clamping power, while maintaining a relatively easy clutch action.

GM has not disclosed specific performance numbers, but the company admits a top speed of 200 mph is very likely. In terms of acceleration, the Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 most definitely beats its Z06 counterpart, thanks to a 115-horsepower output advantage. Since the Z06 rockets to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, the ZR1 is improved to a quicker 3.4 second zero-to-60 time.

    Bmw X5 a Luxury SUV

    Bmw X5

The first generation BMW X5 was around for seven years before BMW replaced it in 2006 with the current car that, on the face of it, looked very similar. But don’t be fooled – the company merely opted not to greatly change the appearance of what has been a very successful car . Underneath, this latest X5 is very much new, and a much better car – it retains most of what made the old car so popular (its interior quality and ability to entertain keen drivers), but has improved spaciousness and, most importantly, comfort. It remains a vehicle aimed very much at on-road use rather than off-road, though it acquits itself well enough here that it makes a good tow-car. It is also not too expensive to run. BMW has worked very hard on the all-important diesel engines, and both the 30d and 40d models are now below 200 g/km of CO2. That is a remarkably low figure for a luxury SUV with over 240 bhp.

As a gal who's always been true to crossovers, I've often endured heavy sighs and a tinge of attitude from my husband — Mr. Driving Enthusiast — when I ask that we take my car out and about on the weekends. It's an area in which we've always differed. He wants to drive tiny cars that can zip around town and handle like they're on a racetrack. I want to ride in comfort while I look above and beyond all the aforementioned tiny cars on the road. The 2012 BMW X5 could be the answer to our split driving personalities. With its fantastic family utility and stylish looks, the 2012 BMW X5 offers a driving experience that can't be matched by another crossover. BMW brings some stiff competition to the land of SUVs with the X5. As someone who usually glosses over the performance specs on a car's window sticker, even I couldn't deny the allure of BMW's German engineering.
